| Welcome to the Mohican Native Plant Society If you are interested in the out-of-doors and especially in the native plants of Ohio, we invite you to join our group! We are a very affable group that enjoys the outdoors and studying and preserving our natural flora. No experience necessary. Outings are very informal, but very informative. Based in North Central Ohio, we botanize through a variety of habitats and seasons. September 19, 2010- Rick Gardner will meet the Mohican Native Plant Society at 2 pm in the parking lot at the Bridge of Dreams, which is just off St. Rt. 62 between Danville and Brinkhaven. Click here for details. Saturday-Sunday, October 2-3 – HIGHLANDS NATURE SANCTUARY WEEKENDER Rick Gardner – We’ll try again to do this weekend trip with Rick Gardner. Highlands is located on the northern part of Edge of Appalachia in southern Ohio. It is west of Chillicothe on Rte. 50. Details later. Sunday, Nov. 1 – 1:30 p.m. – ANNUAL MOHICAN COOKOUT AND HIKE Mike Klein (440-963-6678) - Note that the date has been moved back from the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We’ll have our usual potluck dinner – bring meat to cook, a covered dish to share, and table service. We’ll try to meet at the large picnic shelter at the end of the road above the covered bridge where we used to meet. The fireplace on the south end seems to be in working order. For your information, the level of hikes are: Level of difficulty of hikes: Examples: 1 – Easy, mostly level; may have boardwalk Fowler’s Woods 2 – Mostly level, some inclines; paths Lowe-Volk Park. 3 – Moderate hills and inclines; level off-trail Lyon’s Falls 4 – Some difficult areas, steep or no trails Nelson Ledges 5 – Most extreme: steep hills and cliffs; off-trail Buzzard’s Roost |
